Terms of Use
Truenas-scale.com is an independent fan-created website that publishes general educational information about TrueNAS SCALE. It is not owned, operated, sponsored, approved, endorsed, or supported by iXsystems, Inc. or its affiliates. It is not part of truenas.com. By using this website, you accept these terms and acknowledge that every page is unofficial editorial material.
Independent information, not official documentation
Our articles explain broad concepts involving ZFS, storage pools, datasets, SMB and NFS sharing, snapshots, replication, applications, permissions, monitoring, and recovery. They are not official manuals, release notes, compatibility lists, security advisories, warranties, or advice for a particular server. Behavior can vary by release, hardware, firmware, network design, installed applications, and local policy. Current official documentation and the instructions of the system owner always take priority.
No software distribution or appliance sales
This website does not host or distribute ISO images, packages, updates, checksums, license material, configuration files, encryption keys, credentials, or backup archives. References to TrueNAS downloads are informational. Obtain software only from the official project or another source expressly approved by the organization that owns the equipment, then verify the file through the official process. We do not sell TrueNAS appliances or subscriptions.
No affiliation or support relationship
Reading a guide, following a link, or sending editorial feedback does not create a customer, consulting, agency, employment, or support relationship with this site or with iXsystems. We cannot open an official ticket, recover a failed pool, replace hardware, validate an upgrade, unlock an account, restore encrypted data, or speak on behalf of the TrueNAS project. Product and appliance support questions belong with the relevant official channel, supplier, or responsible IT team.
Trademarks and ownership
TrueNAS, TrueNAS SCALE, iXsystems, OpenZFS, and other product, project, or company names are the property of their respective owners. Their appearance identifies the subject of independent commentary and does not imply a partnership. Original text published here may not be presented as official TrueNAS documentation. External software, images, documentation, and trademarks remain subject to the rights and licenses of their owners.
Reader responsibility
Storage operations can erase data or interrupt services. Each reader is responsible for authorization, software-license compliance, hardware suitability, backups, and a safe change process. Do not import, detach, replace, wipe, format, unlock, expand, or upgrade storage based only on a general article. Confirm every device identifier, preserve an independent verified backup, export necessary configuration, and understand the rollback path before changing a system that holds important information.
Security and incidents
Do not submit passwords, SSH keys, API tokens, encryption material, private logs, customer records, or unredacted infrastructure details through this website. If you suspect unauthorized access, ransomware, device failure, or data loss, follow the incident procedure of the organization responsible for the server. Preserve evidence through an approved process and contact qualified personnel before making uncontrolled changes that could reduce recovery options.
Comparisons, reviews, and external links
Feature comparisons and opinions are high-level editorial assessments, not guarantees of fitness, performance, price, support, or compatibility. Products and external pages can change after publication. A link is provided for context and does not mean that we control, endorse, or are affiliated with its destination. Visitors should evaluate third-party security and privacy terms independently.
Accuracy, availability, and liability
We work to make the site coherent and useful, but content is provided as available without a guarantee that it is complete, current, error-free, or suitable for a specific purpose. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the project and its contributors are not liable for loss arising from reliance on general information, unsupported configuration, unverified media, failed backups, downtime, data corruption, unauthorized access, or violation of organizational policy.
Changes and contact
We may revise these terms as the project develops. Continued use after a revision means that the published version applies. Editorial questions may be sent to support@truenas-scale.com. Official product, account, appliance, and support questions must be directed to the appropriate official provider. Last updated: August 28, 2026.
